Thanks for asking, Christopher! It was fun to create a tech middle-manager with a rad, skatin' cat to accompany a fun weekend Playlist! I enjoyed your list, too! I love how, when given a Playlist topic, so many different artists and songs can be conjured by different people, and a fabulous Playlist can emerge each time!
1. Workin' for the Weekend - Loverboy - This one was an anthem when I was in my 20s!
2. Switchin' to Glide - The Kings - Same as above! "Nothing matters but the weekend from a Tuesday point of view!"
3. Beautiful Sunday - Daniel Boone - This one was big when I was a child. It SO captures a sunny Sunday!
4. Saturday Night - Brian Wilson featuring Nate Ruess - Really captures spending a relaxing night with good friends.
5. Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting - Elton John (also Kenny Wayne Shepherd's recent version!) There's nothing like the reckless abandon of Saturday nights when we are young!
Top Five and Top Ten lists are my bag! I'd love to be included in a future post!
I forgot all about Daniel Boone's Sunday song, and you know I revere Brian, and I forgot, too, about his Ruess collab! I'll expand this Playlist for tomorrow's "GROW BIGGER EARS" (my playlist lane) so tune in for that!
And, yes, Christopher, I'm sure, will ask you for your Top 5 in the near future....I'm stunned he asked me first, but am grateful he did! Thanks, Dan!
Your comment about reckless Saturday nights makes me think of Richard & Linda Thompson, "I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight" -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57PENuNVapc
I couldn't figure out who you were talking to, Nick! I don't remember writing anything about "reckless Saturday nights"! I certainly never HAD any of any consequence, and then I looked...........ah, Dan.....yes, there ya are! Those reckless Saturday nights I can only look back on and be envious of Dan for having that I rarely did (which is why I'm so riveted to his Top 10 Memoirs)!😉
I hear you — a propos of the other song I posted, I remember when I was in HS there was a new transfer student who asked what we would usually do for fun. My answer was, “get together with a friend and go walking around town.”
I loved this week's "Your Top 5" on weekend songs—it was a fantastic read! Your choices were not only spot-on but also brought back some great memories. The way you both connected each track to the weekend vibe was engaging and struck a chord with me
Thanks, Jon for the compliments! I'm glad Christopher invited me to share a weekend Top 5! I enjoyed his Top 5, as well! With either of our Top 5s, have a great weekend, Jon, and we'll see ya soon!--Brad
A song that had a nice weekend spirit is "Manchester Rambler" by Ewan MacColl. I would have said that I'm too old for that now, but I see that the Dubliners recorded a version on an album titled "30 Years A Greying" so who am I to feel old -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpsAP0zhk5o
Thanks, Lou! Glad you liked both my and Chris's selections! I like "Come Dancing" as a weekend song.....had not considered that one, but can't go wrong with The Kinks! Those others are good and appropriate, as well, although I'm not familiar with the Suede and Bloc Party ones!
Thank you! I adore The Kinks and you are absolutely right, you cannot go wrong. I love how your two lists have very different vibes (The Monkees is a great choice to close out btw.) It shows how the weekend means different things to different people, I guess. The Suede and Bloc Party songs are well worth looking up btw. The Bloc Party album A Weekend In The City contains some absolute bangers!
This was awesome. What a great way to spend this Sunday morning: remembering some old gems and discovering some new-to-me bangers! Drivin' Music and Day Tripper have to be my favourite ones of your respective selections. Thanks for the good vibes!
Brave soul......you're actually asking me how my brain works?!? OK, here goes: I was trying to think of one of those wacky cat names we hear so often (like in the "Cats" musical....Mr. Mephistopheles, etc)! But, of course, I wanted to be something akin to original....I've heard that (Scottish?) name before, and word-meister that I am, found it to be a curious word, if not name!
Plus, a few years ago, I was playing with a friend of mine and "re-named" him (his first name) Terwilliger! That completely flummoxed him, as he'd never heard that arrangement of letters before! So, I explained to him its occasional usage as a last name (and the eventual name of a fictitious cat)!
As the wife of the recently-felled and unfaithful-to-her oak tree said to the lumberjack: "Thanks for axing!"
Missed this one last week! It was a crazy busy week.
Love Lou’s choice of Come Dancing, and had forgotten all about Dan’s selections: Workin’ for the Weekend and Saturday’s All Right for Fighting! Great choices!
The only two that came to my mind were Saturday in the Park, and Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers! I sing Saturday in the park every single Saturday lol 😂
Thanks, Kristin, for dropping by, and for your thoughtful comments! Here's hoping your final August week goes swimmingly for you, and is slightly less crazy! See ya soon!

Great list, Dan! Loved The Kings mini-medley! In fact, they were 1/2 of a recent "Yacht Pop Anchors" with an assist from our favorite Earworm maestro, Steve Goldberg....wait'll you hear The Kings followed by Donnie Iris's "Ah! Leah!" https://bradkyle.substack.com/p/yacht-pop-anchors-5-the-kings-this?utm_source=publication-search

Yes Brad I loved that post about Donnie Iris and The Kings! I thought everyone had forgotten about them!
I had never heard of Donnie Iris until I went to college in Pittsburgh, haha.
Well, that would do it! Statue in the commons, I’m guessing?😄

Sometimes I wish they were more reckless than I remember them being!
I think we both need to change our home states from Illinois and Texas to the same one.....we both grew up in Satiable! Amirite?!😎

Those can be the best nights!
Cool! I don't know this song!
It's a great song! I find it really charismatic (in its moodiness).

The one immediate choice for me.

Fantastic list.
Nice to see Maiden make a list
This is a great theme and I’ve really enjoyed reading everyone’s selections, and thinking about my own.
After much consideration I think I would go with:
Living For The Weekend - Hard Fi
Break It Up - We Are Scientists (not ostensibly about the weekend but it totally captures the essence of a great night out)
Come Dancing - The Kinks
Saturday Night - Suede
Sunday - Bloc Party

Thanks, Andy! Glad you liked! I enjoyed having Chris invite me to do this....it re-awakened MY playlist lane of articles!
Great lists from you both!
Brad-- I'm curious about the cat's name; Terwilliger is a street in Portland (and one I used to live just off of). How that name pop into your head?
